Traffic Operator, temporary position
based in Södertälje/Stockholm
The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for providing safe and modern waterways with service around the clock. If you are interested in making a difference in both environmental and safety aspects, then the role of Traffic Operator is for you.
Responsibilities:
In the role of Traffic Operator, your main tasks will involve handling MSI information (Maritime Safety Information) to ensure that shipping receives accurate and up-to-date information. You will assess, produce, and disseminate navigation warnings via VHF, MF, and Navtex to inform about potential risks. Another central part of the job is to act as the national coordinator for reporting faults in maritime safety devices. This means following up on actions from maintenance personnel and ensuring that information is disseminated internally. You will also be the national coordinator for incident reporting and responsible for ensuring that all safety incidents are handled and reported correctly. The role also includes monitoring and reporting deviations and violations of COLREG 10 in Traffic Separation Schemes (TSS) to ensure safe navigation in Swedish waters. Part of your responsibility is also to provide support for IT readiness and the reporting system MSW Reportal (Maritime Single Window) after office hours. Your tools include AIS, radar, VHF, and computer. You will also have continuous contact with customers via phone and email.
The work as a Traffic Operator is performed at irregular hours, both day and night.
Currently, the work is performed at the station in Södertälje, but within a year, the operation will move to Stockholm, Värtahamnen.
Who are you?
To succeed in the role of Traffic Operator, you need to have:
- Captain's license
- Valid radio certificate, at least ROC
- Good computer skills
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing
It is an advantage if you have experience as a watchkeeping officer.
We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The job involves many external and internal contacts, so openness, service, communication, and collaboration skills are very important. You must also have good planning and multitasking abilities, be stress-resistant, and be meticulous in the critical and often rapid decisions that need to be made in the role of Traffic Operator.
The position may require Swedish citizenship. A security clearance with a background check may be conducted before a job offer is made.
